Sometimes it's hard to remember to show love to restaurants you frequent all the time, so I thought I would share my appreciation to one of my favorite Korean BBQ spots in my area. - This is not your typical AYCE BBQ spot. So don't come in expecting such. They have combos you can order but all the meats can be ordered a la carte. The meats are more premium than most spots I've been to (their website says everything is prime grade). - We came at 2:30 on a Saturday for a late lunch and there was no wait but they have a yelp waitlist if you plan on dining in during a busier time. - The servers were attentive and were helpful when needed. The restaurant is clean and the water is ice cold and didn't have any oil floaties inside the cup. - I recommend getting the Large Intestines and Pork Jowl. We come many times before and have tried the Abomasum and Pork Belly before and they are solid choices as well. We haven't been able to try much more because we always crave our favorites and their combo is the perfect serving size for us. - The sides are always wonderful and the servers were quick to refill them for us when we requested them. I recommend the soybean stew over the kimchi stew since the kimchi they have is good and I like to have the variety in flavor. - Parking is limited since they share the plaza with other popular restaurants. We usually skip trying to park in the lot since street parking is usually quicker and easier to find.

Our party had 3 adults and 1 child, and we ordered Prime Large (Serves 3-4). It comes with Prime Beef Rib Eye, Marinated Short Rib, Prime Bulgogi, Prime Beef Belly, Prime Pork Belly, Prime Pork Jowl. It also came with 1 Corn Cheese Plate, 2 Steamed Egg Pot, and Kimchi Stew. It also came with the usual banchan of potato salad, Japchae, kimchi, fish cakes. There were also sides of marinated onions, scallions and bean sprouts. We also ordered Jja Jang Myun. Best we've had. Not one photo tells you how delicious everything was. When we dine at Korean BBQ spots we usually go around the table and say which is our favorite meat and which one we won't ever order again...this is the first time we liked all of the cuts. This may be our go to going forward. Parking on a Friday night was rough. But that's expected. There was some wait time also, but the server made sure to check in on us. Initially the wait time was 45 minutes to one hour, but we were seated within 15 minutes. It was packed. But the servers were very helpful and attentive.

Teok Galbi Dolsot was sizzlingly delicious with banchan. Service was fast. The ambiance was pleasant but parking may be challenging!

My favorite item here is the large intestine, which, in my opinion, is the best. Additionally, you can ask for the remnants of your meats to be added to kimchi fry rice, which they will toss and make for you. The pork belly is okay, and the small intestine is yummy but a bit gritty and gamey. I also love the cheese corn side. They provide the common banchans and sesame oil with salt. Parking is tricky during dinner times on the weekend. Since it has a tiny lot that is shared with other places. I find parking further down the empty streets rather than any parking lots or places nearby. The service is attentive, and you are typically seated immediately.

I usually prefer non-AYCE spots for kbbq for better meat quality, and so I don't have to feel like I need to eat til I'm uncomfortably stuffed to get my money's worth. Song Hak is a great homey spot with a big selection of a la cart or combos for kbbq plus other dishes like cold noodles and stews! We tried the Prime 4 combo (serves 2 to 3) and the meat was very tender - the marbling looked great on the prime beef brisket, the prime rib eye was juicy, and the prime bulgogi was well seasoned without being too salty or sweet. The meat platter was huge and well worth the $95. For two of us, we had almost half the meat leftover to take home for another meal! I love all the various sides like kimchi, potato salad, green onion and bean sprouts, radishand each combo includes steamed egg, kimchi or soybean stew, and corn cheese. The sweet server cooked for us and kept the meat from being overdone or burning and was very attentive. Convoy parking is what it is... they are in a plaza with a lot that fills up fast but you can get lucky :) Overall, it was a great value for the quantity and quality, and we'd be happy to come back!

Truthfully I prefer the all you can eat style Korean BBQ. But this place was open and Manna was undergoing renovation so here's my take: Service was great. No problem getting seating even late Thursday. Parking is always rough in this area so do what you can. Not their fault. Atmosphere was fine. You're gonna get smoke in your clothes and hair so dress accordingly. The food was very tasty. You can cook it yourself (if you order BBQ) or they can help you cook it. They also offer standard fare that are not BBQ. But since we wanted BBQ we opted for the Galbi ribs BBQ and wow there's like 3 or 4 pounds of meat. It's for 2-3 people but the portions are very big here so you're probably taking leftovers. Nice Ban Chan appetizers, they were mediocre. Kimchi recipe is a little sour for my taste. Soondabu tofu stew was tasty and very very spicy with tons of gochugaru flakes all stirred up in it. The Galbi was the best part, worth the extra dollars for the upgrade. The other meats were pretty good too. I prefer the marinated meat. The pork was cut in an interesting way but quite flavorless which is why there is dipping sauce and salt. Overall the flavors were quite good, but if I'm honest I might head to an all you can eat place next time I'm in Kearny Mesa because I prefer the diversity. But overall I like this place. I would come back to try the lunch specials for sure.

As someplace who can't eat very much at a time, I actually prefer this type of kbbq over the ayce joints. No guilt over wasting anything when too full, because we can bring home leftovers Songhak is located on Convoy in one of the little strip malls where parking is a challenge. Totally worth it though. It's such a clean, bright spacious restaurant and they really take care of you and make you feel at home. We know they are known for their intestines bbq, but we were craving beef belly so we got the Combo 1 which has prime brisket, wagyu beef belly, and prime pork jowls. It came with steamed egg, corn cheese & kimchi stew too. We also liked that for their sides they gave us a big plate of marinated onions and bean sprouts along with kimchi and fish cakes. The quality of meats was superb! We added the option to get cheesy fried rice at the end and it was so perfectly satisfying. We also got the cold noodles since we've been craving those every single day this summer. We loved the version here. Definitely coming back for more!

After a long day of errand running and a quick trip to the aquarium with the kiddo, my husband and I were looking to grab a bite to eat for lunch. The previous night I had a craving for Korean BBQ and had done quite a bit of Yelping to find our next spot to try. SongHak popped up and based on the reviews and photos it intrigued me. I also love that the Convoy St location serves as a hotspot for Asian cuisine and tastes - Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. restaurants line this neighborhood and you can't go wrong. So, for today I chose SongHak for us to try and I am so glad we did! They were re-doing their asphalt so the parking lot was closed when we arrived (it has since reopened), but we just parked across the way and made the quick walk. For a Tuesday afternoon it was empty for the exception of one couple dining - which meant we were seated right away. There are a few different ways you can order - simply by dishes of your choice which are prepared in the kitchen or BBQ where you enjoy the meats being cooked at your table. We, of course, opted for their BBQ and chose their Prime Combo 1 which serves 2 people and comprised of Prime Wagyu Beef Belly, Pork Belly, and Pork Jowl. All combos come with an assortment including: + a corn cheese plate (think roasted corn with melted cheese served on a sizzling cast iron - my 3 year old daughter LOVED this!) + steamed egg pot (not my favorite - only because I'm not big on egg dishes.) + and a choice of soybean paste stew or kimchi stew - we opted for their kimchi stew which was very good. Along with the BBQ combo we had an assortment of sides which included: +kimchi + potato salad + marinated white onion + marinated soybeans + a dish with salt/seasonings + a dish with a yummy dipping sauce for your meat (I wish I knew what it was called!) +pickled diakon + marinated noodles Obviously, this combo comes with quite the accoutrements and was definitely enough to fill our bellies without feeling stuffed. Almost everything came out right away and our server was very kind. Here, she commanded the BBQ (I've dined at various Korean BBQ spots and everywhere they do it differently), which I didn't mind. Even though we knew what to do, she very quickly got everything cooking. From time to time I'd take the tongs and sift things around - but I think it's a sign of attentiveness that she would come over and assist as needed...I wasn't offended. I suppose if you'd prefer to cook it yourself you can just mention that to them and I'm sure they'd be fine with that (so don't count this place out just based on those reviews). Overall, the food was fantastic and the service was great. It was just us and it appeared only 1 woman running the front, which made service easy. We would definitely dine again! Thank you for taking such great care of us and reminding us why we love living in San Diego so much!
